WHY SHOOT COMMERCIALS AND RECORD FOR WEBSITES & TELEVISION IN HIGH DEFINITION?
[So it will be useable for several years to come]

The all-HD future is coming on quickly. Recording now in 1080P high definition assures the video will still be very useable for years to come, both for television and the Internet. So if all one's video was recorded in the old standard DV quality, which was once OK for television and YouTube, it won't be useable for long!

Currently, mid-2009:
• Most HD material on television, both via cable and direct broadcast, is delivered in reduced high definition (both 720P - 1280 pixels measured vertically, by 720 pixels vertically, progressive scan - and 1080i - 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels, but interlaced.) In comparison, SD measures (essentially) 640 pixels wide, and 480 pixels high.
• Broadcasters will largely be moving up to 1080P ("Full HD" with 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels, progressive scan) soon.

In 2015, there is
"a video mode planned to appear in future HDTV products. It has a resolution of 3840x2160... called 2160P, also called "Quad HD" and "Quad HDTV"' [from an informative Wikipedia article linked to here. However, the standards are still being developed, and in only 2 video cameras are currently capable of recording at that resolution.]

Video that is shot in 1080P HD can readily be converted to other formats for current needs, then re-issued in full HD as needed.
